Our Home of Sport

Mayfield is the home of sport for the High School of Dundee. Although available to the public on a daily basis (see our opening hours at the foot of the page), the Centre and its playing fields are owned and operated by the School.

We are extremely proud of the fantastic facilities that we have here and we make the most of them. Monday to Friday, Mayfield is a hive of activity as our pupils take to the sports halls and playing fields for their PE lessons.

At the weekend meanwhile, Mayfield plays host to our various teams’ home fixtures in sports including rugby, hockey, football, netball, tennis, cricket and athletics.

Our co-curriculum also provides our pupils with a huge number of sporting opportunities.  An extensive array of sport and exercise activities take place at Mayfield before/after school, from karate and strength and conditioning, to yoga, tennis and many more.

High Performance Sport Programme

Mayfield is also at the centre of our High Performance Sport Programme, an innovative scheme which gives pupils who are performing at a high standard expert guidance and support to help them go as far as they possibly can in their chosen sport, while maintaining the right school/life/sport balance.

As well as fitness testing, the Programme gives pupils access to a range of features aimed at improving sporting performance, including strength and conditioning, specialist training sessions, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, one-to-one mentoring and sports Psychology sessions.

Sporting success

Sport really is in the blood at the High School of Dundee and we’re proud that a number of our former pupils have gone on to achieve international success. In rugby, Zander Fagerson, Richie Vernon, Alasdair Dickinson, Jonny Petrie and Andy Nicol are well-known Scottish rugby internationalists, while in athletics, Eilish McColgan is a two-time Olympian.  In addition, a number of pupils currently represent their region and or country in sports including rugby, hockey, tennis, football, swimming, gymnastics and others.

An Integrated Curriculum

Sport though is just one aspect of the inspiring education that we are committed to providing at the High School of Dundee. Our overriding goal is to enable every pupil to achieve their full potential. Our Integrated Curriculum therefore brings together the academic, the co-curricular and pupil health and wellbeing to provide a coordinated, genuine all-round education with the pupil at the heart.

It’s a philosophy that guides us all the way through from our Nursery at Mayfield to S6.
